Waiting the Right Way (Joel Osteen)

Are you waiting for God to do something in your life? One thing I've learned is that waiting should not be a passive thing. When we're waiting the correct way, we're on the lookout. We talk like what we are believing for is going to happen. We act like it's going to happen. We're making preparations.

It's just like when you're expecting someone for dinner; you don't wait till they show up before you decide to start cooking. Most likely you start early in the day. You make sure the house is clean, you go to the grocery store, and maybe you buy some flowers for the table. You make preparations because you're expecting someone. Well, that's the attitude we need to have while we're waiting for God's promises to come to pass. As you put actions behind your prayers, your faith comes alive and opens the door for God to move mightily on your behalf.

A PRAYER

"Father God, I choose to put actions behind my faith today. I trust that You are at work in my life. I will wait the right way—with expectancy—knowing that my faith in You opens the door for Your hand to move in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Being Fully Persuaded

Being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised (Romans 4:21)

Why did God consider Abraham a righteous man? It was because Abraham looked beyond his own limitation of age and strengh and considered God as the one who could accomplish His own goals. Abraham came to a place in his life where he realized it had little to do with him and all to do with God. His part was initiating the faith within himself.

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead-since he was about hundred years old-and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God (Romans 4:18-20).

What are the things, in your life that are mere impossibilities? What are the mountains in your life? Are these there in order to build your faith in the one who can enable you to ascend to the peak? Once you know that it is His will for you to persue, do it with faith.

Faith requires action when we know it is He who is leading. It may require risk. Faith is sometimes spelled R-I-S-K. Abraham did not limit God. It is this confidence in God that God honeored and rewarded He wants to do the same with you and me.

Becoming A Mighty Man

All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gather around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him. – 1 Samuel 22:2

Have you ever felt that you could accomplish a whole lot more if you had more talented people around you? Perhaps you are in an office and think that some of your fellow workers don’t quite measure up. Imagine what David must have thought in the years following his anointing by the prophet Samuel as the king of Israel. He spent the next many years running from King Saul. Now God was beginning to bring men to support David. But what kind of men? The down-and-out. God gave David not the elite or sophisticated. He give him those who were in debt and discontented with life. David turned those men into the best fighting men of their day. In fact, David never lost a battle during his entire reign as king of Israel-quiet a feat for a bunch of no-name lowlifes! Some of those men became an elite group known as David’s Mighty Man. These were the elite of the elite, the Navy Seals, the Few Good Men, the Green Berets. Whatever you call them, they were exceptional warriors.

Jesus took a view men who weren’t exactly the cream of the crop either. He built his life into these men, which resulted in 12 men who turned the world upside down. Are you God’s mighty men or women? Are you investing your life to build mighty men or women? David and Jesus set the example of what can be done when we invest in other. God does extraordinary things through men who have an extraordinary God. Ask God to use your life to be a mighty man or woman for a cause greater than yourself. He delights in such prayers.

Hearing the Father Speak

An Englishman tells a true story of his encounter with a Muslim man while walking in the country. The Englishman wanted to share the gospel with this man but knew little of Muslim beliefs. The two man talked as they walked and agreed they would each share their beliefs with one another. The Muslim went first and dominated the time of sharing. The Englishman asked the Holy Spirit how to share his faith with the Muslim man.

“Do you consider your god your father who speaks?” asked the Englishman.

“Certainly not.” replied the Muslim man.

“That is one of the big different between your god and my God. I consider my God as my Father who speak to me personally.”

“You can not prove that.” Stated the Muslim man.

The Englishman again prayed to himself.

“Lord, how do I prove this to this man?” A few moment later that two man began walking toward to young ladies on the other side of the road coming toward them. As they approched, the Englishman spoke to the ladies and make small conversation. He then said to one woman. “I believe you are a nurse, is that correct?”

The woman was startled that a man whom she had never met had just informed her of her occupation. “How would you know that? I have never met you before.” she questioned.

He replied. “I asked my Father and He told me.” The Muslim had his proof.

Many of us do not hear God’s voice because we do not believe He speaks or desires to speak to us. In order to hear, we must listen. In order to listen, we must believe that he speaks. As the Lord today for a listening ear so that others might know that you have a heavenly Father who speaks.
